Somewhere in Belgium lurks a secret Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory came true. On the outskirts of the beautiful city of Leuven, is the world’s only Ice Cream Boat. Yes! Not a truck, but a boat!

Step onto this boat, you’ll discover an array of the best ice cream you’ll get. There is a big yellow table, so big and so long that it will sink you back into a childhood dream. Descend into the boat, is the prettiest ice cream salon you’ll see. The beautiful seafaring motifs, coupled with cute marine decor in bright cheerful colours. Wanna know why? It’s because Matadi is also the world’s only architect firm on water!

Literally a dream came true for two architects, Nele De Jaeghere and An Peeters, Coupe Matadi combines both of their passions, and why not.

As I gobbled down my delicious ice cream, the beautiful ice cream lady Liselotte recounted their story to me.

She made sure to point out that all the ice cream are freshly made in the kitchen on the boat. All the ingredients are natural, fresh and organic. The strawberry ice cream for example used up 20kg of fresh strawberries, each carefully clean and peeled.

They have really funky flavours as well, like ‘hallelujah’ (white chocolate with passion fruit and French madeleine cakes) or ‘Thai Peanut’ (peanut with coconut and chilli!!). The flavours change everyday and all the new flavours are posted onto their Facebook page.

To be honest, I wish I could live on the ice cream boat the moment I tasted their ice cream.
