The Groot Begijnhof of Leuven is one of the best kept secrets of Belgium. A ‘Begijnhof’ was an enclosed women’s refuge that provided them a quiet and religious existance. This particular one dates from the early 13th century and is one of the largest best preserved begijnhofs in the Low Countries! Today, it houses the Leuven University’s Faculty Club and postgrad students. It is an oasis of calm and beauty, perfect for a stroll on a sunny winter day!
