The Groot Begijnhof of Leuven is one of the best kept secrets of Belgium. A ‘Begijnhof’ was an enclosed women’s refuge that provided them a quiet and religious existance. This particular one dates from the early 13th century and is one of the largest best preserved begijnhofs in the Low Countries! Today, it Β houses the Leuven University’s Faculty Club and postgrad students. It is an oasis of calm and beauty, perfect for a stroll on a sunny winter day!
